Default using 36v charger on 12v batterie conversion

I just bought a 36v Melex and it has dead batteries, since i only use it to put around a 1 acre yard on the weekend doing yard work i thought i would save some money and install 3 X 12v batteries. it seems like it should work but not knowing anything about golf carts i figured i would pose this question here to the pro's, anyone see a problem with doing this? is there something i need to watch out for? can i still use my 36v charger? any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks, Larry

36 volts is 36 volts

make sure the 12v batteries are deep cell batteries not 12v car batteries they are not good in a golf cart
make sure you wire it correctly and keep them watered
