Default Clunky Steering - both my Precedents

Both my 06 and 07 precedents are now making clunky noises and or herky jerky when steering, especially at low speeds. Is there some sort of maintenance that needs to be done to the steering - and are there instructions for it?

There is a 10 mm bolt that clamps one of the universal joints on the steering column. Sometimes this needs to be tightened. Other than that, check the hubs and make sure they are not worn. Lift the front of the vehicle and check to see if there is excessive play in the hubs or any other components. Sometimes the steering box wears out, but more than likely it is the other things mentioned above.

The noise and feel definitely feel like they are coming from the steering box, not the hubs. I never had it before on my 06 but my 07 has been doing it for a while - now they both do it. The only similar experience I've had was a boat I once owned that didn't have hydraulic steering - very clunky feel and made clunky noises too.

It may be the steering box. Just check the other things I mentioned especially that 10 mm bolt. They are cheaper fixes.
