Default G16 Head bolt issue

Have a G16 motor that needs a set of rings. While disassembling, the threads in the block came out with one of the head bolts! Argh.. haha...

Anyone have this issue in the past? Heli coil repair a good option?

I tried chasing the threads with a tap but too much material came out with the head bolt.

Thanks for any insight!

Can you use a longer bolt in that hole? Usually theres a good inch of threads that never get used in a lot of applications, not sure about this one.

If not, I wouldnt trust a helicoil as a head bolt. Time sert is expensive, but a much stronger option. Still cheaper than s block though.

I actually considered a longer bolt. May try that first.

Any idea off the top of your head the bolt size/thread pitch?

I am thinking 10mm - 1.25 but will take one with me to verify.

Thanks!

Sorry, can't help you there, no idea on size. But you should be able to use a dowel and stick it to where the hole bottoms out, and compare that to your head bolt. That should give you an idea of how much extra thread is in the bottom before going out to search for a bolt. There may be plenty or they're nay mot be enough to make it worthwhile. if theres less than about 1/2" of extra threads beyond where the stock head bolt reaches, I'd buy a helicoil set.

Well, unfortunately a longer bolt did not solve the problem. Looks like trying a helicoil is next.

FYI G16 head bolt size is 10x1.25x70mm if anyone needs this info in the future.

Sorry, meant to say time-sert in my last post, not heli-coil. I'd buy a time sert kit for a permanent repair. They're pricey but cheaper than a block.
