Default Puzzled installing utility bed on '86 Marathon

Hello,

I would like to install a utility bed on my '86 Ez Go Marathon, but I need advice from those who know more about this than I do.

The bed will be used primarily to haul garbage, 50 lb feed sacks, and sometimes a 75 lb dog. My girlfriend and I still like to play golf in this cart so the bed has to be removable. This is where the challenge comes into play.

I can see that part of the metal frame extends up into the fiberglass fenders, but I can't really tie the bed into that without cutting chunks out of the fiberglass.

I was wondering if I could maybe affix four large bolts into just the fiberglass fenders, that way I can tie the bed down with butterfly nuts when I want it on or just remove the nuts and slide the bed up and off. But I don't know if the fenders can hold that weight?

If anyone has pictures or pointers I could use either thanks.

Thanks for any tips,
Josh

Here's some pics of what I have to work with.

I was thinking of putting the bolts in the white spots of the pics.

Thanks fellas

What you are considering would be fine as long as the bed doesn't go too far beyond the end of the body itself. I wouldn't go much beyond a foot or so without some form of angled support at the back end.

Also, just for reference, there is steel at the locations you are considering drilling the bolts through.

What you are proposing to do is exactly what I had done on an earlier cart I had (88 EZGO). Worked great. The post above is right about not extending too far though.

Hey dude,

It's true, the old Marathons have a metal skin....

Are ya go'na remove the basket and bag straps.?

I've seen some really good fabrication tying into the roof struts and the bar at the rear of the bag well connecting frame rails.

If I can get this photo to post, here is an example that was used to build a flip-seat. And no, it was done by me...!

Have fun.

Nah, I wanna leave the bag holders on so we can still play golf. And if we're playin golf I gotta leave the basket on to hold the beer cooler

Hmm I have an idea in my mind but I'm having trouble vocalizing it to where it would make sense to someone else.

Okay cool, yeah I'll probably rig up a swiveling arm out of square tubing on the outside edge of the bed and weld a slightly larger piece of square tubing onto the edge of the frame well. Then drill matching holes in the two and get a pin to stick in it. That would be pretty easy to remove and the only permanent thing would be the larger tubing and it would be out of the way of the golf bags.

I'm not an artist but here's a crude example of what I see in my mind:

The drawing looks good and I'm ready to see the finished product.
