Engine swaps for 73 Harley 3wheeler
Hello, just picked up a 73 Harley cart. It how ever came with a disassembled engine. I am wondering what kinda engines have been swap
In to these carts or am I best to find a stock replacement engine Thanks |

I here and several others on youtube used the suzuki 440 FC snowmobile engine. You go from less than 10 hp to over 40 hp. No reverse however. My swap is documented in the sled section of big blocks.

The engine starts and runs backwards to go in reverse.

I know a few Artic Cats snowmobiles had reverse where the ignition and clutches had reverse capability, if you want reverse its the Harley or a snowmobile engine that was originally equipped with it,

If you can get all the electrical from a Yamaha G1 cart you can use its components in a Yamaha Bravo 250 snowmobile engine and still retain reverse.
However the g1 parts are getting harder to find and some kinda vintage snowmobile craze is going on driving those prices up too. |

The only trouble with the snowmobile engines that reverse don't make much more power than the stocker. And some of them have the hard to find parts problem.

Certain part like connecting rods and new lower rod bearings are almost made of unobtainium. Crankshafts are rapidly becoming scarce. That is why I decided rather than rebuild the stocker to switch to something more supported parts wise. But there are still some trashed carts around that some find for a bargain. It all depends on where you want to be at the end of the day.
