Re: Got a new radio and it's not working - Please help
Yup, consider the red and yellow as stand alone leads (they wont add to make 12v) The yellow is constant power to the radio (keeps memory for presets and radio settings) and the red is only the ignition wire. In a 12v car that connects to the ignition and turns the radio on/off when you turn your ignition on/off. In golf cart the ingition is whatever your voltage is (36-48v) so it wont work that way...here is where the toggle comes in if you chose to put one in (on red wire only), if not you will have to manualy power the radio w the power switch.
Doug's colors are correct, i edited the post to reflect those changes!! Last edited by lkramarz; 07-12-2009 at 03:37 PM.. Reason: Colors reversed |

Re: Got a new radio and it's not working - Please help
Use your voltmeter to determine your voltage. You need 12v, + on the first battery and - on the second battery should work, TEST with voltmeter to confirm (this part is really good for keeping smoke from coming out of your radio). The red wire is for power (+) the yellow wire is for memory (+) and the black wire is for ground (-).

Re: Got a new radio and it's not working - Please help
Your last post is correct. Here this may help.
Genric battery drawing. #1 battery is the + of charger cable side and #6 is the - going to the charger. You need radio + on #1 battery then - on #2 battery. or any 2 batteries that have the cable connecting them together. Hook the + of radio to key switch and - of radio to #2 battery and it will turn on/off with key. The ground on the component dicktats what voltage it is so the radio will be only 12 volts hooked through the key. |
