Default 1996 Club DS clunking sound?

1996,Club DS, when letting off accelerator especialy going down hill, it has a cluncking sound coming from the rear. I suspect the transaxel gear assembly is worn and has too much backlash.

Just bought it and have no knowledge of carts, where do I go from here.

Thanks,
David

Welcome to the forum Charlotte

I'd make sure exactly where its coming from first. Upper Diff, lower diff or one of the sides. Theres a rubber bumper that is in front of the motor that will allow the motor to walk back and forth. I just don't know for sure if thats wore out if it will make a noise like that. Mine didn't make that kind of noise, it only did it under power.

New Plum Quick motor, I don't think that is it. How would I try to isolate the noise?

Just bought it motor already installed. Seller rebuilds motorcycles and appeared to do good job restoring the cart, he says he did not hear anything. On flat roads it is not very noticeable, coasting downhill it is.

Clunking??? or Clicking???

If it's "Clicking"... I (and others) have had this problem also,
so I'm going to have to go with Roady on this one...
It's a good possiblity that the Guide Ring/Bumper may not have been installed when the new motor was put in!

Here's a couple of links!

Put it up on jack stands, get someone else to operate the throttle (slowly)
get underneath the cart and listen for sound.
If it appears to come from motor, mark cables , pop it out then take it to re-builder
for testing or replacement.
Or just take the whole cart back U should have gotten some kind of warranty ???

Private seller, although the motor is under warranty. I will do the jackstand inspection.

Thanks for the responses
