Default 2004 with NO Power

I need to see if anyone has any ideas...

I have 2004 with a 2 cylinder engine. Has run well over the last couple years. My Son is a Clay Shooter and we travel almost every weekend to shoots. This weekend the cart refused to pull up a paved road with a mild grade. This is the engine that is in it. I bought it used and was told this was not the correct engine... anyone know?

The engine starts well and when cold seems to have a lot of power. After only a couple minutes the power loss is very obvious. The engine does not get to the that high RPM sound that it did in the past. When looking at it with the seat off, the throttle is wide open and the gov is not trying to kick it back.

the cylinders have 155 and 160 compression hot or cold. I took it to a well known cart guy and he spent 4 hours on it and can not figure it out. Checked coil, it appears that it is getting fuel ok and it looks like the drive clutch and real axle clutch functions correctly.

SO who has any ideas on what to check... I still think it has to be a fuel and or spark issue. Is there anything in the electronics that could cause this?

Thanks in advance!!

Paul

Does it start running rough prior to the power loss?

I'd say thats not the motor that comes in 04s, should have a canister type air filter and one port exhaust coming out of the head (no cast iron manifold), I think they call it an MCI motor. Sure it's an 04?

I'm not sure I would say rough but it does surge. The rear clutch does appear to functioning correctly - it does move in and out. This weekend as I went up a paved road it loss power , would not pull but kept running.

As I said it never spins up to that high RPM sound. I can see fuel trickle into the fuel filter.

When was the last time the valve were adjusted? I set them at .004.

The last cart I had with no power was teh rear clutch. Take it off and take it apart. Look at the risers, if they are worn, get yourself a 28' clutch and HD belt. You will love the difference.

Last week at Mike's. Valves are set .004.

If the rear clutch was bad, would it it operate in neutral? I can run the engine in neutral and both clutchs operate in and out.

Yes it will due to no load on the clutches. Does it rev fine in neutral?

also check exhaust. make sure an animal hasn't built a nest in the outlet.

It does rev fine in neutral and the clutches appear to work. Will it tell me anything if I pull the seat, climb a hill till it stalls and see what the rear clutch is doing...?

Just to clarify, do you have a single exhaust or dual exhaust? The single outlet exhaust is an MCI engine and the dual exhaust is a pr MCI engine. The MCI engine came out in the 05 models.
