Default G5 missing key

Hi All
I just inherited a G5 and it don't have a key to start it.
Can I buy one from EBay or is it a special cut one for my serial # ??
Thanks
Sonny

The key was special cut for that ignition switch. Yamaha parts system say's Part# J50-82510-00-00 is no longer available/discontinued You can get specific key blanks, but you need the original to get the correct blank and then have it cut. Might see what a local locksmith would charge you. Good luck.

I believe the keys are all the same and don't need to be cut.

Nope, just another Ebay typo/error. I have seen the G5 ignition switchs so loose that any key would turn them though.

It's not just ebay. Even the manufacturers sell key blanks, and replacement keys. For the older carts, all you need is the model of the cart. There are many discussions on the net about the keys being the same for a particular model. It has been a known security issue for years. The same goes for RVs. All the lower door locks on RVs all take the same key. Every manufacturer has used the same key for years, CH751.

Could you imagine a golf course having to handle a different key for every cart?

The G5 has a unique key. But it is quite easy to disassemble the lock tumbler and check your prospects of configuring/modifing the lock to accept the regular common key. This may help you to cut your blank too. I have also seen worn out ones accept common G2 keys.

Is it unique to every G5 or just unique to that model?

Each G5 has a different key than another G5. Same thing for G3 sunclassics. Without the number stamped on the key, getting a new one is tough. HINT SUNCLASSIC OWNERS- write the number down thats stamped on your key while you still have your key! A dealer can order a key with that number...i dont know exactly how large the pool of possible keys were, but they never had the common key. PS- CH751? you mean the same key used on all golfcart glovebox and storage tray locks...
