Default 1986 Marathon 2pg No Spark

I have no spark on my 1986 EZGO 2 Stroke. While the cart is turning over I have the same voltage at the ignition coil and the battery. No spark coming from the plug though.
When I test the coil it has no primary resistance(between the leads) and around 12.5 ohms on the secondary resistance.
Does this mean the coil is bad? Should I just convert to HEI? I am going to install a new plug wire and spark plug(BP4HS) today.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Well I am going to attempt the HEI Conversion today if the rain holds off. I will try to update with photos and outcome.

The coil resistance should be tested with wires on the two small terminals removed. Reading should be 4-5 ohms. if no reading, coil is burned open, needs to be replaced.

There is no resistance on the stockignition coil leads. To remedy this problem I have purchased and installed the HEI upgrade. Still no spark. Good news is that I now have power coming out of the coil to the spark plug wire but it is only reading about 8volts. Pulsar coil checked out at 148ohms. Any suggestions on what to look at next? Do I need a separate ground wire for the ignition module? I also tried reversing the pulsar coil wires going to the the HEI ignition module and this dropped my voltage to around 3. Looks like some more quality time with the multimeter.

The metal plate on the hei needs to be grounded good. Usually connect a wire to the mounting bolt and ground it close to the neg battery cable. Be sure there are no tabs protruding off metal plate and they usually come with thermal grease for use on plate. Spark plugs should be set to .040-.045. Make sure your +,- on coil is correct. Send photo is you can of your install.

No Pictures yet! I will get some on here.
1. Ignition module has a good ground. Plastic tabs removed, mounted to bare frame near the battery, even ran a separate ground wire, good layer of thermal grease 2.
2. Cleaned the main ground, now I get 12 volts all the way to the plug wire. Still no spark.
3. Went back to the pulsar. Still tests out at 148ohms. I then tested the AC Volts and it showed up about .16Vac with engine running. I read somewhere it is supposed to be at least .5Vac. There is also no pulse when I check with a test light. I think this might be the problem?

I appreciate the help so far.

Thanks Jeff.

1. Not sure how to perform the manual test with alligator clips. Any pointers?
2. What to do if it tests bad? tests good?
3. I do get 12volt all the way to the plug just no spark.

I am going to try to upload some pictures later today.

ill wait for photos, and will give instructions for test if you want to test system. Testing good will verify your connections are correct in your cart and the hei, coil are working . Then pulsar is problem .If test fails, you have a problem with wiring or hei, coil, etc.
