Default Brakes Locking Up

I'm having issues with my 06 Club Car Precedent with the brakes locking up. It all stated during our trip down to Florida. We used the cart a lot. I did install heavy duty leaf springs prior to the trip but I did several test runs around the neighborhood and all seemed fine. The brake peddle seems like it has enough play in it. I noticed one side is grabbing more than the other and the brakes squeak really bad in reverse. Any suggestions.

Are the brake cables stretched? Axle twist can cause the cables to pull and lock up the brakes. They have to be long enough- sometimes two passenger side cables fixes it.

When you put the HD springs on you likely did not get the axle and springs aligned good before you tightened the u bolts, also you may not have got them tight enough. Now you have an axle twisted a little. Lift the cart and reset the axle and get the u bolts tight.

Thanks all.

Yes the cart is lifted. It’s the one in the profile pic. I’ll look see if the axle has loosed & twisted. That’s the last thing I messed with before the issues.

The brake cable on the driver's side is too short. Common problem. You can get away with it on certain lift kits with tapered lift blocks because they roll the axle and put the brake mechanism closer to the end of the cable. But when you put heavy duty springs on it you'll never get it to work correctly without changing the cable. You need to replace the driver's side cable with the new OEM cable for the lifted Precedent. With your cart being a 2006, I highly recommend replacing the passenger side cable as well. The buttons on the end of the cables that fit into the brake equalizer under the floor were different on the older Precedents. If you put one new cable on it and leave the original on the passenger side, the equalizer is going to be so crooked it won't apply equal stopping power to both wheels. The part numbers for the cables you need are as follows:

Lifted Driver's Side Cable: 47562652001
OEM Passenger Side Cable: 103528701

Awesome I’ll give that a shot.

Are the U Bolts pictures beefy enough?

That’s about typical for a lift kit.

Dave - ordered cables from your site. The passenger said it was a standard cable, is that correct?

Thanks

Yes, standard cable on the passenger side. They don't make a longer one for a lifted cart because it's plenty long enough already. But you may want to check your shopping cart and make sure you finished the checkout. I do not have an order from you.
