Looking to purchase and modify 1st cart
Hi all! I am looking at buying a 2001 DS golf cart to start my project. Looking to make a hunting buggy out of this thing. List of upgrades is long!
Lift Kit Fold Down Rear Seat Heavy Duty Leaf Springs Front/Rear Bumpers New Tires/Wheels Front Basket Fender Flares Some sort of light kit (no lights currently) Possibly speed and torque motor/controller conversion What would you guys suggest doing first? |

Looking to purchase and modify 1st cart
A 2001 DS is a great platform. Assuming it’s 48V?
I’d go for the drive system upgrades first. (Controller, Solenoid, Cables, Motor if needed,) and then the rear seat and lift kit, with other things that add weight and resistance. |

Re: Looking to purchase and modify 1st cart
Thanks! I don't know the condition of the motor etc... The guys says that it runs and holds a charge pretty well. Should I go ahead and upgrade that stuff anyway to handle the lift and bigger tires? Do they make an upgraded solenoid or just the stock/factory one?

Re: Looking to purchase and modify 1st cart
I’d start with a controller, cable set, and HD solenoid.

I've been looking at buggiesunlimited.com and didnt see a HD Solenoid.
Looking at a kit from buggies unlimited. Comes with AMD High Torque 5.5HP series motor, Curtis 500a high amperage controller (5k-0), High amperage F/R switch, solenoid with bracket, diode & resistor, 4 Gauge complete cable set |

Looking to purchase and modify 1st cart
I’d personally avoid Buggies Unlimited and get your upgrades from Scotty at cartsunlimited.net- site sponsor, and very knowledgeable about his products. Customer service is second to none.
Those Curtis controllers are nothing compared to the user programmable Alltrax controllers. |

Re: Looking to purchase and modify 1st cart
If you drive on failry flat ground and want to upgrade the looks of the cart asap you could do the lift and tires first which will also give you a higher top speed but you will lose some torque.
But if you are in areas that are relatively flat it wont be an issue. |
