Question 2004 Yamaha G22E Battery Cable sparking

I have a 2004 G22E Yamaha. Batteries are one year old. Was going up a hill yesterday and cart jerked, then died. Checked batteries and found one loose connection (Short cable connecting the two batteries directly under driver's seat). Noticed sparking at the loose connection when accelerator was pushed. I tightened the connection but sparks continued. Cable looks fine. Any suggestions?

recheck the connection. The nut may be tight but try moving the wire, mor than likely the wire will still move. This is because the nut is welded and can't actually tighten down on the wire itself. Either you will have to replace the battery of "repair" it by drilling and tapping the flat part of the post.

Thanks. I took the cable off. The bolt was sticky but I managed to pop it out with some vice grips. Hopefully the post is ok. I am wondering if the problem can be fixed with a new bolt. Also, I noted in the Yamaha Owners manual that you remove the negative (–) cable to the motor controller first,
and install it last. I think I removed the positive first. Anyone know why you are supposed to remove the negative first?

First thing I alway's recomend putting the "Run/Tow" switch into "Tow", that cuts off power to the computer. I think they recommend removing the "neg" lead because it goes directly to the computer. The "pos" goes to the solenoid and no current can flow without the solenoid energized. Make sence? Hope so...it was one heck of a party yesterday...if you know what I mean.
