nope he's right. I missed that somehow. the head is indeed different. all I saw was the 111110 and completely missed the j10 j17 designation been using this site searching g1 parts. I love its ease of use. https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-g1_model16648/ |

In the first pic on the left is my j17 head and on the right is a head from an enticer 250 SM. You can clearely see the difference in the dome area. Im thinking there should be at least a full point bump in compression ratio. Does anyone know the compression ratio of the j17 and j10? The other pic is of my j17 exhaust, no butterfly. May bbq it this weekend not 100% sure I want to do it though.

found this j10 head for sale on ebay. there is a bigger difference than I would have thought.

I was looking at that. He’s got a carb and a head too - but they look pretty beat up. Can get a whole top end minus the head for like $200 brand new, and another $100 for the head (there’s a brand new one on eBay I think I’m going to pick up and swap into the J17 just to see what happens

yea that head is kinda beat.
are you getting rid of all the j17 stuff? put a wanted ad for a head in the for sale section some one may have a Yamaha head they want out of their garage. I think I would shave the head .010 and see what happens. at that point its just the machine work and a head gasket but its been awhile since I had a head shaved so I don't know what that would cost. if your looking for performance id probably get the plowmans jug and have him shave a non j17 head. I don't know if the performance gain/money at that point is worth it. That's up to you. |

Talked to Don - I would have to get Jug, Carb, Piston, head, and exhaust to completel de-J17 it - I’m thinking of just some minor upgrades for a cleaner burn with maybe a bit more power
