Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
Recently replaced the coil, voltage regulator, CDI, and starter/generator and boiled out the carb. The machine runs great but takes some crank time before it catches. The spark is strong. The fuel pump seems to pulse okay.
Then I pulled the plug to check it ..black carbon. New plug .030" gap. engine compression 90psi. The carb screw is turned out 1 1/2 turns. What am I missing? |

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
Did you check the valve lash?
What's the history? Was it running good since you've owned it? |

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
90 psi is miserable. Should be around 150.

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
ran great before all of this.
will recheck compression and valve lash. Once it starts, it runs very smooth. |

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
Update,
compression is 150psi valve clearance .004" intake and exhaust. Air box is not leaking Its almost like its just not getting enough fuel initially I have to pump the accelerator to get it to grab. ???? |

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
Yes but it doesn't matter
either way its still slow to grab it seems like its not getting enough gas when i pump the throttle about 1/2 way several times it will fire. boiled out the carb again w/ carb cleaner and am replacing the fuel pump. |

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
Pump test: Pull the fuel line from your carb and stick in a bottle, tap the pedal when its cold and see if it pumps fuel immediately, If fuel, I would lean more toward the carb still. I've cleaned and cleaned carbs and eventually replaced them to correct problems,
Any chance you have a donor carb you can try? Carb should always have a bowl full of fuel to get it started right away if jets are good. |

Re: Slow start Yamaha G8 gas
replaced the carb. Better but still slow to "grab"
Could it be the pickup coil on the flywheel? |
