rear lug studs

i have to lug stud on my rear wheel that spin when i tighten them long story short the tread got mesed up tried to tighten and stud spin i read on anotherr post that they are pressed in if mine are spining how big is my problem ?

I think usually the splines on the studs strip and not the axel itself. Well thats on cars actually.

You will have a big problem getting the wheel off ... after that the stud will fall out and a new one can be presses in by putting the lug nut on & pulling the stud into the flange hole... but the big problem remains how to get the wheel off, first?

Do you have steel or alum.wheels? I have in the past had to take a Dermal with a cut off wheel and remove from steel wheels, takes some time but iy can be done wuth out damageing the wheel. If it is recessed lug, you will have a hard time. By the way have you tried a impact many times it spins fast enough to spin lug off i would try that first.

I use a Harbor Freight 10 dollar air powered cut-off wheel. It works great.

You might find it easier to grind off the stud from behind the hub if you can get the cart up in the air, then push the new stud in and tap it in place with a hammer followed by hitting the nut with higher than usual psi from an impact wrench to fully seat it on the splines. Finally, back off the bolt and re-torque to normal specs.

This is on the rear... Its behind the brake drum, non accessible.

I have done the dremel tool trick and I have used the mini grinder as well.+

One more trick is to center punch the nut on each side of the stud and drill a 1/8" hole in the nut parallel to the stud and then drive a small flat chisel down through the holes to break the nut off the stud.
