Wtb- 92-96 Fe290
I am in az and would like to replace my flathead with a bigger motor. I was told this is the one to do it with the least amount of work.
Thanks Heck |

It's not really bigger by much and it's not going to increase your speed all that much either. They are hard to find because they are pretty good motors, but new they cost almost as much as a big block. Why don't you go that route instead. You'll be much happier. I promise.

I see you're in Peoria. I am in Black Canyon City, up I-17 north of Anthem. What did you have to do to put a BB in it. I don't want to spend much on this as I have many hobbies and not a lot of money. This is what I have and what I really need is just a little more power for trail hills.

Re: Wtb- 92-96 Fe290
I've had both the flathead and the Fe290. There was maybe 5mph diff. between the two with no mods but the 290 is definitely a smoother running peppier motor with abit more torque. I have a flathead laying around right now and trying to decide what to do with it. Put it in a sale cart or not. There really wasn't that much to do with the install for the V-twin I put in. The instructions were one sheet long, 10 steps. It was just about that easy. You're going to pay $1500 for a new Fe290,,, don't see many used ones because they are pretty nice motors. Talk to Tom at CPP. He doesn't sell the Kawi motor I got because they got so pricey but he does sell others and his kits are very complete. I can do pretty much anything with my BB from trails and hills to fairly deep sand at the dunes. I know where you live and it's a hilly area. The Fe290 would be usable there but would pull the hills VERY slowly.
