Hate to ask... How to get the shifter lever off?
Seems like such an easy thing... Last thing to remove is the shifter lever before I can take off the body. But the darn thing won't come off. I removed the screw from the center and expected it to just pull off but it won't budge. I tried to pry it off with a tiny crow bar thing. Sprayed some lube on the rod behind it and in the screw hole but it still wouldn't pry off.
To add insult to injury my daughter snapped the shifter cable right at the connection to the bell crank trying to unscrew the shifter. I had removed the mounting screws for the mechanism behind the shifter not thinking it would be a problem to remove. Don't suppose that cable is repairable? Again, I hate to ask a question about such a seemingly simple task but I was prying on it for quite a while. Thanks |

Re: Hate to ask... How to get the shifter lever off?
Well, I finally got the shifter lever off. I had a small gear puller that I used. I put a longer screw into the screw hole so it bottomed out and then pushed against that with the gear puller. It fought the whole way off. Not like popping the steering wheel off where it came right off after the initial pop.
One more question... How to get the choke assembly off the body? The push-in part of the choke must have a screw that's accessed from the back side? And then the three screws are accessed from the front? l've tried a screw driver but that didn't grab. |

You were right thanks. I got the part off of the body.
I saw the nuts but I assumed I'd need to get to the front first to hold the head of the bolt. |

Re: Hate to ask... How to get the shifter lever off?
How about trying for 3 outa 3?
Any I idea what the issue is with the passenger front wheel? Can I adjust the camber? I don't see it any way to do it? Oh, and one more question for tonight... Any suggestions on how to get the side bumper strip retaining screws out? There are two at each end of the strips (8 total) and they are all rusted in there. I guess the recommendation would be PB Blaster and let soak? Drilling them out won't work. Because they're in aluminum the drill will wander off the screw. Thanks for all your help. |
