Re: Hate to ask... How to get the shifter lever off?
Right after I posted I went through an '86 service manual that I found on the internet and it had the same section on alignment. I guess I need to use the resources I have at hand before posting.
Regarding the screw extractor. I have some but I've never been able to use them successfully. I either break the extractor or they just don't bite into the screw. As always, thanks, I really appreciate your help. |

Re: Hate to ask... How to get the shifter lever off?
as for the screws, i've done two things with ones that didn't come out
rip out rubber as i was replacing with diamond plate aluminum cut the threads that are sticking in off with a sawzall, but have to be really careful not to get into aluminum the other option i've used is to cut the threads off with a cut off wheel both seem to work fairly well. then to hold new panels in either drive new screw in from backside, or just run a stainless self tapper in(1 on each end) from the outside. |

Re: Hate to ask... How to get the shifter lever off?
I did finally get the screws out with similar methods. I had already pulled off the rubber strips. I used a dremel with cut off wheel to cut off the end of the screw threads sticking out. Then I cut a slot in the head and used a flat blade screw driver to get them out.
