Steering locking 85 Marathon

Ok I've had my cart for 6 months or so. I have had a problem every now and then, with the steering locking but wiggle it s little and it'd be fine for a while. Took it out today and went to go turn around and it will go maybe 1 rotation left from center and then locks up again when your almost back to straight. I can't see anything obvious. Any ideas?

Steering rack is worn out, you need a new rack and pinion expensive for a three bolt gear around $200.

Well what about putting the rack and intermediate shaft from a txt on it. Is that possible without alot of mods? Or just better off fixing what I got?

I found the rack with the boot and tierod kit. Is it the reducing gear that moves the rack?

Wow didn't know the rack and pinion was still available for these, my 85 has a little play in the steering (but not locking up) that I've zeroed it down to the pinion gear on the end of the steering column being loose on the column. If I remember right it's held on by a pin, I believe that's where my play is, you might look at the teeth very closely on both and check the column to gear pin
