Auto-Lock Differential Installation 2007 Club Car
Hi,
I have a 2007 club car, 5 years I picked up a auto-lock differential with the intentions of installing right away. Well as life has it other project, work and a move ended up shelving the upgrade project. Now, I just received a new rear seat and have also installed a 6 inch lift. I'm getting ready to fix the drivers side breaking issue from a short cable (due to the lift) and I figured this will be the right time to finally get the auto-lock differential installed. Somewhere along the way I'm missing the bolts from the kit (M10-1.5x25). from what I understand they are stock Club Car bolts? Can I just re-use the original bolts I take out of the ring gear or are the stock bolts shorter? The direction also call for locking differential fluid Mobil 424. Shouldn't I be able to use 80w-90 gear oil with friction modifier? Should I stay away from GL5 due to posable yellow metal issues and go with a GL4? Also, does anyone know how much oil and friction modifier needed. Thanks in advanced for any assistance/advice. |

The only comments I have are, when bolts are re-totqued they stretch which makes them weak. So why not just replace them? As for the fluid, why not go with what’s recommended?

The RXV gets 75-90 gl5 gear oil + 2 oz. friction modifier, should work for your limited slip as well.

Thanks ojo, I had found a thread last week that had a lot of good information. Unfortunately I cant find it and i didn't book mark it either. One of the things it mentioned was using an alternative tp Mobil 424.

Re: Auto-Lock Differential Installation 2007 Club Car
If it's an electric cart 80w-90 is really too thick and will cause power loss until it gets hot, which will be almost never.
Use regular SAE 30 motor oil, or a synthetic gear oil such as 75w-90. You can add friction modifier to either if needed. Also you could use something like Universal Tractor Transmission Hydraulic Fluid, since Mobil 424 was originally used for Hydrostatic transmission and hydraulic pump units. And you can add friction modifier to that as well if needed. A quart of TTHF should be like $5 at any Napa or AG equipment supply store. |

Re: Auto-Lock Differential Installation 2007 Club Car
I'm just going to try some synthetic 75-90 with frication modifier since I already have some on hand. I can always change it if I have performance loss and go with the 424 mobil if needed.
Thanks for the advice! |
