Default 2020 Yamaha Drive 2 PTV QuieTech Plowman's Performance Kit Review

2020 Yamaha Drive 2 PTV QuieTech Concierge
Cart also had these items installed for all testing: Rear seat, windshield, clays basket, Yamaha fender flares, Wet Sounds Stealth-10 Ultra HD Bar & trailer hitch.
Each test was with myself driving on the same stretch of road making 3 runs.

Stock w/ 10" wheels, stock tires & no lift = 19mph.
Minimal low & mid range torque and whisper quiet.

Stock w/ 10" wheels, stock tires, no lift, governor manipulated = 25mph.
Minimal low & mid range torque and whisper quiet.

Stock w/ 10" wheels, stock tires, no lift, governor manipulated & spark arrestor removed = 25mph.
Low & mid range torque slightly increased. I also noticed that it was somewhat easier to maintain the top speed of 25mph even if the cart was loaded.
Noise level from exhaust also slightly increased however cart was still much quieter than my previous 2011 G29 Carb.

Lifted w/ All Sports 6" A Arm, 23" All Terrain tires, 14" wheels, governor manipulated & Plowman's Performance Kit(machined clutch, Plowmans belt, Plowmans air filter and phone call to dial in) installed & spark arrestor removed = 27mph.
Low and mid range torque def increased which was my main goal. The cart without this kit was quite frankly somewhat gutless. Noise level has def increased but I would say not quite as loud as my previous 2011 G29 carb.

I have to admit when I went from my 2011 G29 carb to this cart I was pretty disappointed with the QuieTechs lack of low & mid range torque. The Plowman's kit fixed this issue however I would like to see me end up with a true 30mph cart once everything is broken in.
Overall I am satisfied with the results and if you want your QuieTech to have the torque needed to drive on the beach in thick sand, travel up hills & maintain decent speeds while loaded the Plowmans Performance kit is the way to go.

I will go ahead and give the report on my 2017 PTV Quietech with stock 10" tires and wheels and no lift. My cart only has an 8.9 HP motor where subsequent models have the 12.29 HP. It would be interesting to drive and see the difference with the newer motor.

When I bought the cart second hand it was only doing 17 mph. After adjusting governor and removing spark arrestor it would do 25. I then installed Plowman's clutches, belt, air filter and went through tune up procedure with Don. Since I don't have a second seat and only use it to play golf the primary clutch spring was too strong for my liking. I wanted it to shift up sooner so Don sent me another primary and secondary clutch to try. I then tried a couple of different spring set ups until I got the feel that I wanted and am actually running the factory drive belt since the take off is smoother than with the high performance belt. It really has a lot more low and mid range torque than it used to as well as top end. When I headed back to the club house tonight I ran down the street and checked speed. I was doing 31 before I had to let off to turn in. I have seen as high as 33 when I just held it down for a ways.

As for the noise it increased slightly when I removed the spark arrestor and then some more when I installed the high flow air cleaner. I actually went back to the stock air filter for quietness for a while but lost a little umph so currently back to running the high flow air filter.

I have to give Don kudos for taking the time and having the patience to custom fit my cart to my needs. There are few owners that are willing to do that and I could recommend him fully.

I was hoping you guys would post your thoughts on the Plowman's kits, once installed an tuned. I have 2020 Quietech and I was wondering if the kit really made a big difference. The bigger question for me is, how difficult is the tuning process? What exactly is involved? As you can see in my profile picutre, the cart is stock and I don't plan on any changes as my 14 year old drives it as her daily driver.

I paid a dealer to do it.

Thanks for the reply. Last week I asked my local dealer about doing the work, but they're reluctant since it will void the warranty.

I did mine myself but do a lot of mechanic work on cars, golf carts, small engines, etc. I changed my clutches back and forth enough times that I could do both clutches and belts in about 20 minutes but I have air tools. Don talks you through everything step by step.

I would recommend taking off the body panel in front of the motor to do the valve and throttle body adjustments. You can take the panel off in about 5 minutes and makes it a lot easier to see what you are doing if yours is like my 2017 and I think it is.
