CDI unit issues ?? I have no spark. Coil test ??

Does anyone know how I can test the CDI to see if this is why I have no spark? This is driving me crazy. I have no wiring diagram of the CDI or even a description of what CDI means. It is just some encapsulated box with mystery wires coming out of it.

How about the coil. Is there a test for that as well?

There is no test for the CDI. You test all other parts, if they all test good, it is just a given then that the CDI is bad. And that has proved to be the case. It may stand for; Capacitor Discharge Ignition!?

What yr and model car?

1981 g1. can you tell me the other tests to rule out everything else?

I can't, but its in here somewhere, you just have to read. You ohm the coil. but don't know what its suppose to read.

coil resistance: 350 ohm, plus or minus 10%

That link didn't say how to get the service manual other than buying it from a 3rd party...unless I missed something.

Thanks for this. I will check that when I get home. I've read someplace on here about a light check while turning the engine by hand. Ideas on this?

I have the service manual for the "81 G1AM3. It is in "fragile" condition, or I would mail it to you to use or copy and you could send it back. I will try to scan the ignition testing section and send it to you if you want. Just let me know.
