Re: 1994 car down again
As long as the 6 guage cables are not shorting against anything and according to what you see I'm afraid its time to pull the motor and have it repaired or replaced? Remember to use 2 wrenches when removing cables from motor to keep from doing damage to stud connections. Check real close all cables and ends while apart as that much heat may have ruined the cables and possibly the contacts inside F&R switch?

Re: 1994 car down again
A very good way to test a series motor is go to "RABBITREBORN" post of 7-28-2010 as he explains easy way to perform test while motor is mounted in cart.
Hope this helps you confirm problem? |

Re: 1994 car down again
I have the back wheels on stands . I removed all 4 wires from the motor . then i jumped the 2 center post on the motor and hooked a 12 volt battery charger to the outside posts and the wheels turned forward . then i switched this wiring method around and the wheels turn forward . i then switched the post ,that the battery chargers -&+ clamps were on . the wheels turn forward . i would have thought that one of those ways would have made the wheels turn backward . but the motor does turn the wheels.
Is it possible that the speed controler is telling the motor to go forward and reverse at the same time ? can the controler be causing the motor wires to get so hot . it acts like something is shorting out when i step on the pedel . |

Re: 1994 car down again
depending on how the cables are under the insulation that causes resistance and cables will get very hot..........................................

Re: 1994 car down again
There is a test on here that tells you how to test the motor and I have the diagram and its real easy and it works with just a 6-volt battery. I think Scotty has this diagram, just PM him to get the info.

Re: 1994 car down again
If you have all 4 wires off the motor:
Place a 6 gauge jumper between A2 and S2. Hook 6 (or 12) volt positive to A1 and the negative to S1. Motor should turn one direction or the other. Now reverse the positive and negative inputs. Motor should spin the other direction. |
