Default So I stopped by Battery Source yesterday...

to see if they had a voltage reducer at a decent price.

Dude tells me I dont need one with the CC Precedent cause they have 12volt batts and to just pick one and hook up to it. I says I don't want to pull from just one batt. I'd like to juice from the whole pack so's not to disrupt my pack's harmony. Dude says no such a thing would happen, he's been doin it for years. Then he proceeds to tell me to make sure that I'm not pluggin up my cart after every use... says that the 'big 12's" need to cycle, need to drain them every once in a while. Don't recharge until the cart gets weak. Says that constant charging after every use will build up sulfer in the cells and shorten batt life...

Now I'm new to the cart world, but everything this fella told me contradicts everything I thought I learned on hear. Any advice?

Thanks!
CB

sounds like the guy is setting you up to make a future battery purchase. Disregard what he said and follow what you read here. I found a 48v to 12v reducer on ebay for $70ish. Nice, small unit capable of 25 amp.

Stop shopping there. Obviously, you are dealing with someone who sells D-cells to flashlight owners. He has no idea what he is talking about. Run away!

The information I have is from Trojan Battery Co. You can contact them thru their website and a tech will answer your questions.... Wet cell Batteries do not need to deep cycle discharge & charging often will not sulfate the plates, according to Trojan Battery Co.

Don't take bad advice from people who sell batteries. I have heard dealers say they do not educate their customers so that they come back for more batteries sooner.

The following is a snapshot of their usage recommendations :

Like they all say shop elsewhere unless you have lots of money to waste and in that case I sure would be happy to take some of your surplus funds?

And finally from the FAQ :

QUESTION: Does my deep cycle battery develop a memory?

Lead acid batteries do not develop any type of memory. This means that you do not have to deep discharge or completely discharge a battery before recharging it. For optimum life and performance, we generally recommend a discharge of 20 to 50% of the battery’s rated capacity even though the battery is capable of being cycled to 80%.

I think we can conclude your battery tech is very misinformed

See, that's why I love this site! Folk bein' honest and helpin' a fella out. Thanks ya'll!

I ordered a 6" A-arm lift from 3R yesterday (too late to ship out same day) so now I just need to find the right tires at the right price. I'm trying to from the standard all trail design yet not get too aggressive where pavement will beat me and the youngins to puddin. Reckon the limit for my ride is 23" tires with that lift but that cool.

Anyway, thanks for your advise and help!

Peace and fish grease!

Also note ,
If this is a newer IQ model,
it is my understanding many have a open billot connector which can provide 12 or 48 Volts .

Someone will correct me if Im wrong ?
