turning radius w/6" lift
I just put a 6" lift kit on my cart w/22x12 wheels and now the turning radius has changed dramatically (like 2-3 times wider). Is this typical? I adjusted the steering rack when installing the lift kit, could this be the issue?

Re: turning radius w/6" lift
Is it the same on both right and left? After I put my 6" lift on, one side turned very shallow and the other side rubbed the suspension. After I adjusted it, it was fine. I don't remember if it had much overall effect on my radius...lift vs no lift.

Re: turning radius w/6" lift
I noticed that the steering wheel is no longer centered. How do I adjust that?

Re: turning radius w/6" lift
I had the same problem with my DS after installing my Jakes lift. I put the front end extender on and cut back the metal steering stops. Now my radius is the same or very close.

Re: turning radius w/6" lift
To be honest I didn't test both directions because I was also having a problem blowing fuses so I brought it back to the garage. I will check both directions. My steering rack is probably not centered because the steering wheel is off. When adjusting the rack, do you turn the rod or disconnect the tie rod end and spin the tie rod end only?

Re: turning radius w/6" lift
You don't have to dissconnect the tie rods, there is a left hand jamb nut on one end and a right hand jamb nut on the other. With both ends loose you can turn the tie rod by hand or with a small adjustable wrench. Also, make sure your "rack" is centered before you start. It may take several times to get it right.
I did not lose any turning radius when I added my lift. Just had to make the proper adjustments. |
