Default 92 Clubcar, what engine will and which engine won't

Hello,

My name is Jason and I'm new to BGW. I have a 1992 gas Clubcar with the FE290 Kawi engine. I'm looking to go bigger on the motor, but have done some research and it appears that I may need a 96 or newer rear end in order to add an aftermarket motor. I'd like to know what my options are as far as motors go, and whether a new rear end is required?

The stock engine seems to be a reverse rotation engine, is this correct?

My cart is primarily used in the dezert, so I guess more torque is needed rather than top speed.

Thanks,
Jason

I put a 16 hp Kawasaki V-twin in mine. It does great in the desert and at the dunes. GPS'd at 38.9. I'm very happy with it. I believe it orginally had the same motor you do.

Hi and Welcome! Yours is the right rotation 96 and older is the preferred cart for adding a big block . 97 and newer is the reverse rotation (which is what I have but works fine as well) go here it is your best deal around for a total kit package http://www.cartpartsplus.com/perform...-upgrades.html

Azboo, where did you find your motor?

Sundownshifter, thanks for the link. The pictures in your link on your signature seem to have the same setup as mine. The driveline is on the passenger side, is this the correct setup for a "92"?

Azboo you are right we have the same engine

I believe she got her engine the same place as me , which is the web site I sent you , They no longer carry the 16 hp that Azboo and I have but I hear Good things about the 18hp they sell. as for your other Question . No mine is a 98
The drive line is on the passenger side in both setups in the club cars The only difference is my rear end is geared in the reverse directions . in my case I have to put my shifter on R to go forward and F to go in reverse . you wont have to because yours and Azboo gears are set up in the correct rotation.
I hope this helps.

Definitely get in touch with Tom at Cart Parts Plus. His kits are super easy to install, and the customer service is simply the best. The 18hp would be a great choice for your cart. I think you'd be really happy with it. The motor Sundown and I have really escalated in price, which is why Tom no longer offers it.
