Default Re: 98 G16 starter runs, have spark, motor won't fire

to pull up my old thread. I'm having lack of power issues again. Good belt, good sheaves, new carb, new tci, new fuel pump, good compression, the motor just doesn't want to pull the way it used to. Barely climbs our driveway.

I'm about ready to scrap this motor and upgrade. Thoughts either directions?

What does a misfiring clutch do? I'm not familiar enough to know. It looks to funtion properly if I lift the seat and look. Is there a test?

The motor sounds good, seems to run good, it just doesn't want to pull on the low end or open up on the high end. I bypassed the govenor with a straigtht cable to the carb.

I mentioned this in a post a couple years ago. It is like one day it ran good, something happened and it's has felt underpowered since.

I just don't know what direction to go or what to check.

Start basic maint. program. Clean air filter, new spark plug, one pump of grease in each clutch. Read this site, it will take you two or 4 nites!! But you need to get educated on what can go wrong and how to evaluate what the problem is, then how to fix.

Check air in tires, never know how simple it could be!!

Mike,
Thanks! I have done all the items on the list plus. I've read this forum for over a year and I'm still baffled. What I've done: Change oil, air filter, plug, grease primary clutch, Replaced the carberator, replaced the fuel pump, replaced the TCI, running ethenol free 93octane, tires are properly inflated, have good compression, replaced rear sheaves with plowmans milled sheaves along with a new belt. I'v also tore off the head, cleaned the valves and re adusted them.

I think i mentioned in another post, it it like someone hit the swithch and now it only has 50% of the power it used to.

I'm going to try to add video of my clutches in action tonight if I can remember how to upload the video.

With all this said, do you have any more ideas? I'm all ears! Thing is driving me nuts. I'm ready to toss the motor for another one.

This may sound silly, but have you verified that your throttle value is opening all the way when you floor it? You said that you bypassed the governor, and it has been known that this mod sometimes results in inadequate throttle movement.

Here's another mind fart : clogged muffler.

my last post didn't post...
Anyways. dumb question, how can you check the muffler? Can I cut it open and just reweld? I don't know what the baffel set up looks like.

I do like this suggestion.
