These 4 - stroke engines are not known for leaking crank seals but they do on occasion leak. Here is a youtube video that shows a person repairing an oil leak. You can see the crank seal in his video. His oil filter bolt was stripped . Yours is ok I would assume. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AbeLQgysFc |

Re: Oil issues
To get the clutch off, remove the center bolt that holds it onto the crankshaft. The outside of the clutch is threaded and the puller is a simple bolt, 3/4" SAE, 16 TPI, 2" long, full thread that needs to push something against the end of the crankshaft, which pushes the clutch off the tapered shaft. Trig pointed out that he uses a 5/8" steel rod, 4" long in the hole behind the bolt to push the clutch off...I used old motor oil so I didn't have to worry about damaging the crankshaft. My engine was up on its side, so I could fill the hole. You could use axle grease. Its still a fluid, and won't compress. It acts like a hydraulic cylinder...the oil and grease won't compress so they act like a rod. Just need to fill the hole entirely as air does compress.
Get at least a grade 5 bolt. I use an impact wrench and it will "pop" right off. You could always buy the puller online if you can't find the bolt local. |
