Question What batteries do I need

I just acquired an electric EZGO that I think is a 1997. I got that from an assumption that I made looking at the serial number. It came with no batteries and no charger. Can someone tell me where to start?

WELCOME to BGW first! Be sure te visit: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/introductions/

Post the manufacture code and serial # and we will confirm your assumption.

Are you planning to lift or upgrade your cart or just for campground usage?

For normal/stock usage, you need SIX 6volts deep cycle golf car batteries. They are not cheap, from 600 and up the whole pack, bests are TROJAN, if pockets allow I suggest T-145's for better range, otherwise t-105 are the most popular and accessible.
You need a 36v charger too, look for an AUTOMATIC charger, ebay is plenty of them I just saw yesterday 2 chargers around 170 which is a steal.

Now, if you planning to upgrade, do not buy nothing YET.

Tell us some specs on you cart, does it have a switch on top of the speed controller box? (black box under seat pass side)

As Gaston said, we need the manufacture code to dtermine the year. Also use the descroption below to determine which type of drive system you have ..... Welcome to the madness

DCS will have a F&R lever behind the driver's knee and a run/tow switch on the enviromental cover on the controller. The backside of the f&R looks round like a hockey puck.

PDS carts will have a Tow/Run switch with toggle switch for F&R on the dash

SERIES carts will have a shift lever like the dcs cart down by your legs, but it will NOT have a tow/run switch. Also the actual F&R switch is in the corner by the controller and there is linkage from it to the lever in the center.....

serial number is 1109717
there is a large black box under the seat on the pass. side. it has a rocker switch on it that has tow/maint. on one side, the other side is not legible. There are no wires sticking of the driver's side end of the motor. I will be using the cart for minimal purpose, and No I have no intention of customizing, lifting, or making high performance. Thank You guys for all your help.

Oh and by the way, it does have a forward/reverse lever just under the seat bottom on the wall facing forward (below driver's right knee).

I checked the price on Trojan batteries and they seem just a bit pricey. Are there any less expensive alternatives?

We use Crown Batteries as a cheaper alternative.... But nothing is as good as a Trojan. Also please POST THE MANUFACTURE CODE not the serial #.....

I like Interstate U-2200's. For the huge difference in price I don't believe you get a comparable increase in life with a Trojan. I would bet a U-2200 charged with a good three stage smart charger will outlive a Trojan using the normal cart charger that seem to be a battery cookers.

Is not a PDS for sure if it is a 97, too old for that, I was suspecting it could be DCS or Series, but you confirmed with the rocker switch with tow/maintenance it's a DCS cart. Anyway, POST THE MANUFACTURER CODE is above the serial #.

It has a regenerative system for sure, separately excited motor, my advice on batteries without going further explanation is that you get for what you pay, Trojans are the way to go, if buying another check for MANUFACTURE date and how long they were on the shelves , that's why trojan is best, they don't usually last long on shelves as many others. Shelves batteries are a big NO NO.
Alternatives are crowns, exides, usbattery, and then you can buy cheaper sams/walmart cotsco on a wide variety of tastes and brands.

I am asking you again; Are you planing to LIFT THIS CART? We need to know this BEFORE you buy anything else to give you better advice.
You don't have 2 out of 3 of the more important parts for a 48v upgrade which is highly recommended even lifting vehicle or not.
