I hear ya. I'm not afraid to buy new batteries, but if they are okay, and will last the rest of the season or more...

What voltage does the charger need to see to shut off? Thanks again for all the info.

that's as loaded a question as when you asked what could go wrong on a 97 E-Z-GO......

ok seriously, most 36v chargers will shut off at around 42 volts.
