Default 2005 goes without key

My buddy picked up a 2005 48 volt Precedent a few months ago, he just discovered he doesn't need a key to use it. I pulled the wires off the key switch to see if that was stuck on and it didn't make a difference. After following the wiring I see the key switch wiring goes right into the speed controller, now what? We did replace the mcor right after he got it, it would stop going without warning then start again randomly, replacing the mcor cured that. It has the factory 12 volt batteries in it and runs fine except for the key switch not working.

It ran with the two igniting wires disconnected?

It runs with the two wires from the key switch disconnected, I even unplugged the harness at the dash and it still goes.

Sounds like the solenoid is stuck in the closed position to me.

I unhooked the wires that control the solenoid, the small ones, and it would not go, I thought the same thing.

Crazy stuff. I don't understand how it's possible though. The micro switch in the MCOR gets its power from the keyswitch. Without power to the micro switch in the MCOR, your solenoid won't click. And without the keyswitch hooked up, you don't have power to the MCOR. I think I'd start tracing wires. Something is bypassed or hooked up wrong somewhere.
