Speed Magnet Accidental Find for DS IQ Regen with GE Motor
So I wanted to make my 2004 DS IQ Regen with GE motor faster and I ordered up some magnets but they came in and were for the motor with the magnets on the outside of the housing. My motor is GE and the magnet has a much larger ID and is behind the little black plastic plate on the motor.
...so I took a screwdriver and tapped the magnet on the motor and broke it in half, one half fell off and the oher half remained in place and felt very secure. I put it all back together with the half magnet and my cart went from a consistent 15.5 mph on gps to 20.5-21.4 mph on gps! I will post back in a while with any long term effects but I think as long as the half magnet remains in place there will be no issues. Hope this helps somebody out there. |

Other than the balance being off ( premature bearing failure )?, you should have no issues. If you have regenerative braking, that may be somewhat disabled.

I've been driving it around my hood now for several days and it is still working perfectly! It's not very often you can "break" somehing and make it faster. I'm pretty happy with it.

I don't advise it. It's not good when the rest of the magnet falls off and gets chewed up by the motor. Can cause major damage.

Re: Speed Magnet Accidental Find for DS IQ Regen with GE Motor
Update:
I drove the cart for two years without any issues from the broken magnet and the cart always went 22mph plus. Cart still had the regen braking although it's parameters were probably a little skewed. |
