Villager 4 rear suspension question
I have a 2009 DS and noticed a red rubber bumper on each side of the axle on top of an aluminum tower that is attached to the axle with the u bolt holding the axle to the leaf spring. These devices are installed in such a way that allows the rubber to touch the frame when no one is in the cart. So there is no movement of the leaf spring unless the actual rubber flexes. The attachment shows the red bumper, but I am not a good enough artist to show it touching the frame. Does any one know if this should be installed or maybe it is a factory item for shipping the car. Any information will be helpful.

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
The way this is set up there is no room for any movement of the rear suspension, unless the compression of the bumper touching the frame gives enough, but that looks doubtful.

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
. . . the function of a Jounce Bumper is to stiffen the suspension gradually as it approaches the end of its Jounce travel . . .

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
I have a 2000 DS that had these rubber bumpers on it and it rode like a log wagon. Took them off and installed HD springs with a rear seat setup and am very pleased with the ride.

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
the couple carts I have seen with these were not touching the frame at rest. I would suspect your rear suspension is weak? although you have a fairly newer cart maybe it was really worked?
Do you have hd rear leaf springs? |

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
Yes there is the extra helper leaf on each spring and the cart had very little use. I was told by Club Car that I could cut these in half length wise to help the ride.

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
another thing you could do is swap out the rear shackles for longer ones. I've never worked on one that new, but on older gas carts the ones from an xrt850 will give about an inch of lift. electric ones are straight and easy to fabricate.
any chance you could provide us with a picture(s) of your rear? |

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
If you are going to cut the leafs down to soften the ride.Use a cut-off saw or a cut-off wheel.Don't use Torches or Plasma-cutters.The high-heat from them will change the temper of the steel.Measure from the center-bolt and cut both springs(each-side),the same amount. Also check the bushings,to make sure they move freely. We just got a Villager-8 and the suspension is set-up,it won't move at all.We are rebuilding the rear-springs when Dad gets them out(I work at a spring-shop).Hope this helps.

Re: Villager 4 rear suspension question
after re reading this i would think a villager should have a hd leaf pack on it. like 3 or 4(probably 4) leafs per side. are you saying yours has only 2?
also is this a gas or an electric cart? |
