Best option for $3k budget and hills?
I'm looking for a golf cart and could use some suggestions on what year/model to be looking for. I don't want to deal with gas so I'm set on electric. I want something that I can increase the speed and will get me up hills without too much problem. Not incredibly steep hills. Club Cars seem to be a great option so I thought I'd start here. Budget is about $3k, but I'd like to put a back seat and street legal kit on it also. Thoughts?

The Club Car DS is a great car, and since your budget is 3k, I would try to find a used one in good shape for a good price.

Re: Best option for $3k budget and hills?
If 20-22mph top speed is acceptable on stock sized tires, you can get some very good torque improvements to help with the hills by upgrading the controller and cables on a CC. You can start there and if that is not enough, you could always spring for the motor later.
I've been comparing the options for my hill climber and still can't make up my mind. If I had the $$$, I'd convert to AC. The power gain is impressive to say the least but you would blow your entire budget on that alone. |

That's asking a lot for 3k. A decent used cart will cost 3k. To upgrade it might be close to another 3k. My 2 cents

I agree. A fairly new cart in decent condition will run at least $3K. Upgrades are not cheap. I think you need to refigure your budget or lower your expectations.

I know this is the CC forum ... but you might look at an Ez-Go RXV.
Base cart is in the ballpark price. Speed is 19.5 mph w/stock tires. Climbs hills without a problem. no upgrades to motor or controller needed. Batts can be upgraded from 4x12v to 6x8v with relative ease and low cost (ez-go drop in batt cage). Plenty of aftermarket goodies. Relatively trouble free carts. |

Re: Best option for $3k budget and hills?
The big question is do you want to buy a cart ready to go or is fixing a non-running cart an option?
If you buy a running cart you don't have much left for upgrades, if you buy a non runner you can immediately make some upgrades. |

Re: Best option for $3k budget and hills?
Thanks for all the replies. I understand that $3k might be a stretch. Currently for sale in my area (Utah) are a 2006 CC Precedent with backseat for $2,600, a 2009 stock Yamaha for $1,900, a 2009 stock EZ-GO RXV for $2,000, and a 2011 stock EZ-GO RXV for $2,100. What are your thoughts on HiTechRedNeck's comment about the RXV? Is that a better option than a CC based on what is currently available and what I'm wanting to do? Assuming all are in like condition and do not need new batteries.
