Aluminum or Steel Battery Rack
Hello,
i know this question has been asked before - but it has been at least a few weeks. I am still working on my 2005 Golf Cart TXT rebuild, after spending time on the battery rack - it needs to be replaced. By the time i have removed all the rust, there is not enough metal left. So - going to order a new one. Should it be steel or aluminum? |

Re: Aluminum or Steel Battery Rack
Steel, unless you are on the ocean air (salty). Seen too many Clubcars with batteries falling out the bottom. The assertion that "aluminum dont rust" is mostly a moot point, as battery acid dont make rust (in the sense of rusty midwest cars), it makes corrosion. Steel stands up to corrosion longer than aluminum. I will add, i do not live in a "rusty" climate.

Do they make a steel battery rack for TXT that does not have tabs?
The aluminum appears to be easier to install. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Aluminum or Steel Battery Rack
I dont understand what all the trouble with the tabs is. I never thought pulling up the mat & drilling out a few rivets was a real big deal.

Re: Aluminum or Steel Battery Rack
I don't really know how the battery rack is holding up. I sold the cart two years ago. However, at that time, it was looking like new.

Re: Aluminum or Steel Battery Rack
I think it all has to do with making sure to avoid over filling your batteries. I have rebuilt many carts on my own especially royal rides and westerns. I have 1980 royal rides that are on club car aluminum frames that look grand new and then others that need new trays. Same with the ezgo. Some are from 20 years newer than the club car and are horrible and others are fine. I attribute it to overfilling the batteries and the acid eating away the tray. Water may play a factor in the ezgo as well but I think if you coat the frame you will be fine with either as long as you do proper maintenance.
