Voltmeter to switch question??
Hey guys... so I just got a voltmeter from Scotty B's and want to hook it up to my switch. I put my multimeter on battery 1 pos & 6 neg and get 37.6v. When I put it on battery 6 neg and the switch I get 13.2. This is key on or off. Shouldn't I get the same readings when the key is on and nothing when the key is off? What am I missing here? Thanks!

Re: Voltmeter to switch question??
Sounds like you might be connecting the meter to the 12v accessory input line.

Re: Voltmeter to switch question??
yes, indeed, I was... got it figured out... I think. The other two posts (B and I) register 37.4v with the key on. I did not see the instructions when I ordered it. So, after looking at the instructions, I hooked up to I. If my selector switch is in the F or R location, my voltmeter is on, whether the key is on or off. The only time the voltmeter is off is when the F/R selector switch is in the middle. Is this the way it should be? I would have thought if the key is off, the voltmeter should not come on at all??

Re: Voltmeter to switch question??
You've got it connected to the input leg to the switch. You want it on the output leg (B) from the switch.
I've got mine wired directly to the main battery terminals, so it is always on. Barely draws any power and with very little exception, it has been on continuously for nine years and is still as accurate and as readable as it was in 2011 when I installed it. |
