I find this Deka product real easy to use..... I just spray it on and wash it off.

The MSDS shows it's baking soda, an organic solvent, and soap.

One thing thats not really fully laid out with this (I work on HUGE battery strings at work) is that you need to make sure the top of the battery is clean and DRY after you are all finished... anything thats left on the top of a battery makes it susceptible to failure via arcing... it doesnt take much really either... for any acid spills straight baking soda is about the best for neutralizing... we also use a product called Neutra-Clean which is a spray application neutralizer and cleaner. Hope that adds a little to the conversation on it...

Forgive the formatting, but you get the point.

COMPONENT CAS NUMBER % by Wt.
Water 7732-18-5 80 - 90
2-Butoxyethanol 111-76-2 2.9
Sodium bicarbonate 144-55-8 5 - 10
Detergent various < 1
Liquefied Petroleum Gas 68476-86-9 3 - 8

I was referring to 2-Butoxyethanol as the organic solvent, but I totally missed the "universal solvent".
