Brake cleaning and adjustment
2004 EZGo Series cart, brakes are very soft, cart was previously used in extremely dusty conditions. I was going to try to clean and adjust prior to replacing pads; however, having trouble getting to the brakes. Not sure what to do next - please see pic below. I thought the center fastener was supposed to pry off after removing cotter pin. Thanks!!!

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
Mine are the same way and I'm going to investigate when I have time. I downloaded the manual from the sticky on the main page. I scanned through it, and there is a section on brake maintenance. Might what to check it out…

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
The drum isn't coming off until that castle nut is removed. They can be tough to remove. A local tool rental should be able to provide you with a good drum puller.

yeah, remove the nut. you could tap it a few times with a hammer to loosen it. I think I had to on mine.

Thats great info thanks! It's the castellated nut that does not want to budge.

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
I remove my castle nuts by applying the parking brake and leaving the tires in place, and not jacked up.

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
Yes, I think I am going to need another tool, I have sprayed it 2x with WD-40,tried hammering, prying off, not moving at all. Maybe Advanced Auto Parts has a tool they can lend me...

Re: Brake cleaning and adjustment
I read that using a small propane torch to heat it up will loosen it. Anyone have any experience with this?
