Default 1982 Club Car rebuild problems, I think soleniod issue

Good Morning. I bought a Club Car this week. The good news I got a 1982 Club Car. The bad news I got a 1982 Club Car!!!! Serial A824237033. I have spent a couple hours reviewing the forum and printing off wiring diagrams. Thank you. it is very frustrating I can't download a service manual on this cart..

The cart sat for a few years before I bought it. I replaced the micro switch speed control assembly and put in some Tojan batteries that are good.

Last night we went to try out the cart and here is what happened.

Whether the key is on or off, if the selector is placed into reverse the car goes backwards and the selector switch sparks and then catches fire, without the pedal depressed

Whether the key is on or off, and the gas pressed or not the car doesn't move forward

I read this thread which seems similar.

Would this be the correct Solenoid?

So should I replace this Solenoid? Should I replace the forward/ reverse switch? If so can I use this one as i can't find any labeled for 1982:

Also anything else I should consider?

Sounds like you need a fresh F&R, you might be best suited with a HD model if you want to use the cart for something other than golf.

Thanks Scotty, I have read a lot of your threads.

Is it okay to get a F/R switch for an 83 1/2 and above? That seems to be all I can find. I am not sure I need an HD as it will be drive on the street. Not going to take it hunting... Actually thinking of painting it purple for the wife and putting some diamond kick plates on as accents. I have been told not to lift it because of how weak the motor is...

What about the solenoid? Should I be concerned and proactively replace it?

Thanks

Yep, get rid of the resistor setup! Once they start breaking it'll be one thing after another until you will hate looking at the cart and will want to burn it to the ground. Trust me, I've been there - done that with my '86 Club Car DS and the BEST thing I have done to it has to be upgrading to modern electronics!

ScottyB has a simple to install conversion kit that is highly recommended by several members of this forum.

My '86 is lifted with 20" tires on it and I have no problem running the stock 36 Volt motor on 48 Volts.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Scott. For now I am getting a new F&N switch to see what happens. Once I get it to actually move (when I want it to) I will start looking at Mods
