Motor removal
2006 PDS, does anyone know what is the best way to pull the motor out. Should I take the whole differential out from under the cart?

Picture shows the center cover removed. I remove the baskets and other obstructions, make a cradle out of rope and use a chain fall to lift it out. |

Re: Motor removal
Ok thanks JohnnieB. My cart has a rear seat, so I will pull it off and try it from the top. That looks a lot easier than working on the floor under the cart.

Re: Motor removal
Agree with Johnny. Out the top is the easiest way. I use some left over 1" crank strap to wrap around the motor and make it easier to get out.

99.91 mph @ 6.54 that's awesome!!! I'm amazed, I never new a cart could go that fast.

Re: Motor removal
Thanks. You can do a lot with golf cart parts and lithium batteries. We've actually been 101.06 mph in the 1/8th mile with a skinnier driver. Others are building carts that will be faster than ours. Records are made to be broken.

Re: Motor removal
Well I hope you can top the other's when the dust clears!!! I got my motor out and took it apart. The armature is black where the brushes run, and real dirty. I tried to get the armature out of the end housing but it wouldn't move. I will take it and try to get it pressed out so I can get the armature cleaned up and replace the brushes.

Re: Motor removal
Good advice here. It may take a little wiggling and tugging, but the strap is usually the best way to go. Just hang on. That motor is heavier than you expect...

Re: Motor removal
With the cart safely up on jack stands. Remove the passenger side rear tire for clear access to motor bolts and terminals. The motor can also be removed using a combination side and under access from the drivers side. Warning!
The motor is fairly heavy and will drop when slid off the end of the pilot shaft. A stack of soft material or a floor jack can be used to 'catch' the controlled drop. |
