Previously, it was going into reverse while traveling forward, then it went to all reverse and no forward and now it is all reverse and no forward, so the same thing is not happening is not happening.

As previously mentioned, a DCS controller defaults to forward and has to be told to go into reverse. What tells it to go into reverse is applying pack voltage on Pin-4 (Orange wire), so check if you have voltage on Pin-4 when the direction selector is in reverse.

I have 8 volts on the orange wire when foot pedal is pressed when switch is in reverse. I also have 8 volts when pedal is not pushed

You ought to have full battery pack voltage, so you are losing about 30V somewhere.

The are three sets of switch contacts and a few feet of wire between Pin-4 and the main positive terminal on the battery pack, so one or more of the switches and/or lengths of wire is bad.

on my reverse switch, the orange/red wire is tied together with the orange/red wire with the forward switch. Is it suppose to be.

I think you are asking about the power supply from pin 9 to both switches... the answer is yes. The switches share a common supply. See diagram and follow the lines

Thanks Scotty, I must have had blinders on and missed the fact that Pin-9 is feed by the same voltage source as Pin-4.

A a DCS controller, Pins-9 & 10 must have full pack voltage (36V nominal) on them for the controller to operate properly. You only have 8V on Pin-4, which is fed by the same voltage source, so the voltage might also be extremely low on Pin-9 and that my be the reason why both of the controllers you've tried haven't operated normally.

Unfortunately, the stock DCS controller has no under voltage protection, so the controller borrowed from another cart may have been damaged if the voltage on Pin-9 is significantly low.

I was just informed that the controller I tried may not be good either since the guy told me he pulled it from a cart in a junk pile

I traced the orange wire and found all to be good but still only 8 volts at controller. pull orange wire out of white pin holder and I have 36 volts. push it back in and have 8. aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Bad controller(s)
Toss an XCT of DCX in there and be done with it.
