86 E-Z-Go Differential Lube Question
Learning more everyday. Turns out this cart is an 86 not an 89 like E-Z-Go's site said by the serial number search.
I am told that this is the E-Z-Go rear differential in this thing not a Dana. Can someone tell me what kind of lube? I am assuming you fill it till it drains out the lower plug on the side but if anyone knows otherwise please advise. |

Re: 86 E-Z-Go Differential Lube Question
well in the owners manuals you will find it shows to use 30 wt. MOTOR OIL. well there are quite a few threads on the subject....and there are a lot of different opinions. one thing to keep in mind is that GEAR OIL and MOTOR OIL are not rated the same way. so in reality, as far as viscosity goes, 30 wt. motor oil and 75-90 wt. gear oil are about the same.
NOW.....I am a mechanic by trade for other 35 years and worked on and maintained everything from carts to all of the mechanical equipment of a nuclear power plant. And I will tell you, you put GEAR OIL in a GEAR BOX, which our carts differential is. THUS....whether it truly needs it or not, says the factory, MY cart, and any cart I change the differential oil out of gets 75-90 wt. GEAR OIL back in it. |
