Default 2005 western on ezgo chassis intermittent

I am working on a 2005 western mounted on an ezgo chassis so I guess it just an ezgo. It's a 36 volt cart the batteries all load test fine and measure 36 volts but they are old. Hit the peddle and it takes off fine and runs for about 5 minutes but if I stop for any reason after that it's dead, seems to go until it is stopped for any reason. Then hit the peddle and you hear the solenoid kick in but the cart goes nowhere. Put in reverse and the horn sounds the solenoid clunks but no movement. Wait 2 or 3 minutes and it takes off like a bolt. Someone suggested that I may have a faulty battery. Any ideas?

Sounds like a controller problem for sure.

When you say "measure 36 volts" If that's full charge. The batteries are likely done. 38.2v is a good charge. 36.3 is 50%.

Thanks Ridepate and Volt_Ampere, I'll check the voltage at full charge and if I have the right controller I'll swap that out for troubleshooting.
