Taller tires will reduce torque. Proper size will depend upon load and terrain. The more load and the steeper the hills the smaller the tires should be. Hope this helps. We have some steep hills, mud, and I have a cargo box on the PDS cart. I use a hi-torque motor 500a control and 20" tires. Torque and speed are not lacking for this cart using 42 volts.

Johnnie B question for you or I can start a new thread if needed.

1. With this cart it has a lift and is stock.

2. I was thinking of leaving of leaving 36v adding a new alltrex xct controller either a 400 with a fan or the 500 comes with the fan set to 400 so I have the option to upgrade later. Or do the 42v with the same controller.

3. For just regular running around for my kids what is your suggestion. and what size tires would you use 21 or 22. thanks
Glad to hear you got it going.

1. It has 22" tires, so it isn't stock.

In fact, it has 18% less torque than stock due to the tire height, but might have a bit higher top speed on level ground. (Stock speed is about 14 MPH.)

2. An Alltrax controller will run at 36V now and 42V or 48V later, however not all solenoids will, so get the 400A super-duty one that does work at all those voltages. (Standard with 500A controller kit from scottyb, optional with the 400A controller kit.)

You also need to upgrade the high current cables (all 10 of them) to 4Ga or thicker.

3. Depends on the kids and the terrain. If the terrain is hilly or the kids are speed demons, I'd install shorter tires.

In fact, if I was building that cart for kids to use, I'd stay 20" or less on the tire height so I could get rid of the lift. (Lifting a cart's frame and body off the axles raises the center of gravity of a narrow track, short wheelbase vehicle, making it more susceptible to rollovers and flips.)
