Default Ring Terminal help

Complete newbie question, but want to do things right on my EZGO.

Previous owner did not have ring terminals on some wiring.

The wires coming from the charging receptacle to the battery plus and negative side need ring terminals. Are there any type of ring terminals that I should use on these 2 wires? I purchased a couple of 5/16 ring terminals with the plastic outer case. Will this work or do I need something else?

Are ring terminals rated for certain voltages? I would guess the ring terminals have a certain guage of wire that will fit?

When it comes to this kind of stuff, I just do not have a clue...but would like things done right on the cart. I think the previous owner just cut corners on stuff like this.

Thx

The ones you got are fine! Make sure that you put the high current wires against the battery studs and the ring terminals on top! You want the lowest resistance connection to the high current wires. One problem with the 5/16 ring terminals is that they are typically for larger wire than you are using. Make sure you get a good crimp (or solder) connection to the ring terminal. Soldering is not really a good idea here. Crimping is better if done correctly.

If you look at the insulator on the terminals, you will notice they are available in different colors. The colors denominate the size of the crimp sleeve. You likely want yellow ones for 10-12ga wire.

If you have crimp connectors too big for the wire being used simply strip 2 Xs the needed amount of jacket off the wire. Give the bared wire an twist and fold it in double. Now insert the doubled wire into the crimp connector.

Worried about corrosion? Solder after crimping or dip your bared wire end in dielectric grease BEFORE inserting it into the crimp end of the connector.
