Battery break in with Scottyb
I have new batteries installed and now doing the first charge.
I read scottyb break-in and it said to charge up and then drive until 75 percent capacity or equivalent to 9 holes of golf as a reference. If I go with the 9 holes of golf method, the average golf course is 6500 yards or 4 miles... That would mean i should drive the cart about 2 miles and then charge it up again if using the 9 holes of golf idea. 2 miles does not sound like a lot of distance on a battery? Does that sound about right? Skip Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Battery break in with Scottyb
The 75% SoC is a limit rather than a goal.
In other words, don't discharge the pack lower than 75% SoC for the first dozen or so charge cycles, but you do not have to discharge the pack to 75% SoC before recharging. I'm not a golfer, but I suspect most golfers drive their carts more the 6500 yards to play 18 holes. Also, different carts get different "gas" mileage, so some carts will discharge their battery pack more in two miles than others. Best bet is to figure out how much your battery pack discharges per mile and then drive it far enough each day to discharge the pack down to at least 90% SoC, but no more the down to 75% SoC. Assume the pack is 100% charged when you start after the cart was on charge the previous night. After the trip, let the battery pack rest 30 Minutes and measure the voltage. Then look up that voltage on a Volts vs SoC chart to get the ending SoC. The divide the change in SoC by the miles traveled. If you only make short trips, intentionally drive it further a couple time during the first dozen or so charge cycles. |
