The trick with using the old one is knowing it's in there. I found mine by accident when I was removing some grease from the old motor spline with a small screwdriver. Out came the O ring. I am not sure it does much but I think they all have something rubber in there.

It can make a huge difference in noise, especially on worn splines. Most noticable at very low speeds.

Oops, I wasn't aware that other manufactures used something other than a rubber cylinder like EZGO does.

That is what I love about this forum, learning new stuff.
