Definitely the wrong magnet. You bought an ADC magnet for a GE motor.

So, I now have the pass side leaf spring lowered, the motor case removed, the motor guts removed, and I have pics I want you guys to take a look at. The motor ran perfect until I started this mess...no noise, no smell, no clicks, ran at 19mph.

1. Can you see anything on the motor/housing that could be a problem?

2. Will this reassemble easily? I see 4 "spokes" inside the housing, do those somehow need to be retracted to get it to slide together?

3. Any other thoughts before I begin reassembly?

Thanks for all the help.

Jim

I am heading to Depot for the longer screws to fish the bearing retainer for final assembly. I will hold off actually doing a final assembly until I get some reliable comments about the appearance of the motor.

Is there a safe way to bench test these motors. I realize I can't just set it on the floor and apply power, unless I plan to damage a lot of things. Obviously, the shaft has to turn, so putting that in a vice won't work.

Any homespun ideas on how to do it?

While I await comments on the pics of the motor, I have another question.

When reassembling the guts into the housing, is there a specific orientation of any parts? I looked for anything similar to timing marks on a pulley in a gas engine, but did not see anything. If I assemble it, and everything goes in smoothly, and button up with no problems, should it run just as before, at least in theory?

Thanks, yet again.

#2 Yes they need to be retracted those are the brush holders. They are spring loaded. Spread them apart and there should be a way to latch them open until you insert the armature. Insert the bearing end first and release the brushes. I would do this with the motor vertical so the brushes don't get broken. Hope this helps

Yes, the spring rests on the sides of the brushes until the armature is in place and the brush plate is installed.
Then lift the springs , slide brushes down and then spring rests on top of brushes.

Looks like they may have chipped a little but that may be ok depending on how bad.

To run it, you need to have the motor installed on the rear end as that supports the armature on that end.
There is not much clearance between the armature and the field coils, you will damage the motor.

You can do the basic ohm checks after you put the brushes and end cap back on.
This is a parked brush set ready to be installed.

Okay, thanks for the info. I got the motor fully reassembled, and no parts left over...

No rattles when I shake it.

I will install it tomorrow morning, and see if it all comes out okay. Anhy simple tricks to getting the shaft splines to line up with the diff? Just put it up there and wiggle it until it slips?

Thanks, everyone, for the help.

One tip would be to tie a rope or belt around the motor. That way you can handle the motor weight with one hand and guide it into position with the other.

That might work well. I might try my low-profile jack, but not sure it will go high enough.

Thanks!
