the g1 if governed to stock settings would be ok with a your mixture of 2oz/gallon, but if you have your screw turned in and blast around WOT its advisable to go with at least the 50:1 mixture.
If you are running "balls out" then you definitely want more oil, so I agree with you again. Yeah 50:1 will prob smoke, but if that's not a concern at all then by all means pour it in. You see Jeff, we are saying the same things. That's great. You sound like you've worked on 2 strokes for a while. What I wasn't appreciative of was you pointing out little things making me look like I didn't know what I was talking about, and that you say I "need to use more oil". I've done the research and I know this particular engine very well and I am making an educated decision. I never told anyone "what they should do", that's silly to be that way. I shared my experience and trust that the "OP" will make an educated decision as well. |

Re: g1 2-stroke oil use
FYI...thanks to Smallblock450sl, in the Yamaha service manual in the "specs" section it says...
"Mixing ratio 150:1 at Max. power" This is obviously with the factory oil injection system. I would imagine that the oil is mixed variably with rpm. So, 65:1 would be more than double the oil content of the factory injection system at full throttle/max power. As far as protection goes you are fine. It will likely smoke. But do whatever you feel comfortable with. |

Re: g1 2-stroke oil use
Don at plowmans carts told me himself i could run a lot less oil and be ok if i was just riding it as a stock cart but if I planned to bypass the gov., which I do, then he would run like 60:1 ratio with a real high quality synthetic oil. He suggested using Amsoil
